HIKING – OUR FAVORITE HIKES IN THE AREA
Mt. Washington (6288′) – Jewell Trail – 4.6 miles – 3 hours 55 minutes – This trail starts at the Cog Railway base station and winds through rugged forest working its way up the north shoulder of Mt. Washington to the summit.
Mt. Willard (2804″) – Mt. Willard Trail – 1.4 miles – 1 hour 10 minutes – This is an excellent short hike with the trail starting at the old Crawford House Railroad Station. An easy grade up an old carriage road leading to a spectacular view of Crawford Notch.
Ammonoosuc Upper Falls – Bridle Path – 1.4 miles – 45 minutes – Starting at the Mt. Arethusa Falls – 1.3 miles – 1 hour 20 minutes – Beginning off Rte. 302 East on the right and about 3 miles below Crawford Notch this is a great easy hike to view NH’s highest 200′ waterfalls.
Lower Falls – .5 mile – 10 minutes – Starts at the parking lot off Rte 302 East, across from Zealand Road. Short easy trail that follows the Ammonoosuc River with a cascade ending in a deep pool. Great swimming.
RECOMMENDED GOLFING IN THE AREA
Bethlehem Country Club was designed in the days when hickory shafted clubs were the norm. At a little under 6000 yards BCC is a relatively short layout when compared to some of today’s 7200-yard monsters. However, the small “Rossian” greens with their challenging topography provide plenty of challenges for the novice and expert alike. BCC has hosted tournaments for the NHPGA, NHGHA and NHWGA. We are proud of our ability to offer a championship venue for the top levels of competition in our region, yet remain the type of playable golf course that the novice and purely recreational golfer can feel comfortable on. Outstanding playing conditions on a traditional, timeless design make for a memorable golf experience at Bethlehem Country Club.
Waumbek Golf Club – The majestic mountains of the presidential range, with Mount Washington as the peak, watch over the beautiful 18 holes of Waumbek Golf Club. If you are looking for spectacular vistas and splendid serenity, there is no better place to be. Don’t be surprised if a moose crosses your path. The golf course is always open to the public to be enjoyed by everyone (including the wildlife).
FABULOUS HUNTING AND FISHING IN THE AREA
Anglers have many choices in this area, from the pristine waters along the Ammonoosuc River, to the beauty of Echo and Profile Lakes in the Notch. Our personal favorites are the Upper and Lower Falls, Martin Meadows Pond in Lancaster and Mirror Lake in Whitefield where boats are available for half day or full day rental.
We also cater to hunters, in any season, offering the annual Hunters Special and providing warm, comfortable accommodations after a long day in the woods.
